How to Train a Dog

This is The Header Then

If you own or are considering owning a greyhound you need to be aware that they have very specific dietary requirements. Many experts now recognise that a poor quality dog food packed with preservatives and additives can have a negative effect on your dogs behaviour.Behavioural problems with greyhounds also generally lie within what they are fed so a good quality food with no artificial flavourings or preservatives and no genetically modified ingredients is essential.

If your dog is a retired or rescued greyhound then you should try and feed it a specialist, quality Greyhound Food.Greyhounds don’t tend to suffer from excessive weight gain, so if you are providing a good quality greyhound food product you don’t need to be overly concerned about portion sizes.

Bear in mind that ingredients such as fish oils are great for helping to maintain healthy skin, bones and eyes. Look out for such ingredients when you are next shopping for your greyhound’s food.If you think your dog’s food is lacking in oil you could try adding a spoonful of cod liver oil once per day to a bowl of food, or you can introduce fish into the diet as a snack.Water should always be supplied if you are feeding a dry pet food product.

As dogs in the wild would have been forced to catch their food their bodies are good at digesting raw meat.If you are feeding raw meat make sure you never feed poultry or pork. Please also remember dogs are omnivores and not carnivores. Feeding meat alone will cause malnutrition as will feeding vegetables and cereals alone.

Ideally, stick to a quality, specialist pet food as this will contain all the meat your greyhound requires.

If your dog barks much more than you’d like him to and you can’t take it anymore, it’s time for you to get him and anti bark collar. Anti bark collars have been in the market for years, but it’s only in recent times that some dog owners are finding out about them.

The first thing to do to reduce a dog’s barking, is trying to train him verbally. The process is very similar to the one used for teaching your dog to sit, stay or fetch something, using oral commands that your dog has to respond to. Sometimes it can be more difficult than that and this is where an anti bark collar would come into play. You will then have to decide what type of anti bark collar you should buy.

Citronella Collar

The citronella spray collar is becoming very popular today. It’s a favorite collar, specially among young dog owners, since it doesn’t hurt the dog or makes him feel uncomfortable. The fact that it doesn’t send electrical shocks every time the dog barks is one of the collar’s best selling points. It works by spraying the dog’s muzzle with a bit of citronella every time the dog barks unnecessarily, confusing him momentarily and thus stopping the barking.

The spray doesn’t cause any pain whatsoever; it merely stops the dog from barking because the animal will be curious about this new smell that appeared out of nowhere. As times goes by, the dog will realize that the spray is activated when he barks, and he will limit the barking to necessary situations. It has a microphone built into the collar which senses the dog barking and sets the citronella spray off.

Ultra Sound Based Collars

Another very commonly used anti bark collar is the ultrasonic type. Like the citronella collar, the ultrasonic collar is completely safe, comfortable, and painless to your dog. It stops barking via a high pitch that calls the dog’s attention. The pitch is so high that humans can’t hear it, so don’t think that the collar is broken just because you can’t hear it.

Your dog will immediately stop barking once the noise sounds and you can choose to adjust the level on the collar if you think it is not working on your dog. For example, you can select between a constant sound or a fluctuating sound, depending on which one your dog responds better to.

An anti bark collar can very well be the perfect solution to your dog barking problems and help you to start enjoying your time with your dog again

Anyone who has had to leave home for a holiday or for work related leaves of absence will realize just how difficult it is to find jus the perfect place to house their cherished pet while they are away. For those wanting to find great places for their pets putting dog boarding Snohomish or dog boarding Bellevue into an internet search engine may finally find the facility that they have been looking for.

Of course, merely looking up this information on the internet is not enough to make a good decision. Getting to know the facility by visiting well in advance is a must for those who value their pets. Other ways to make sure that the facility is being run properly is to ask anyone living nearby. Friends and family often have a wealth of information at their disposal so they may confirm that the place is good.

Whenever a pet has to go to this kind of facility, the owner will obviously worry that their pet may be missing them while they are not there. It is a good idea to provide the kennel your pet’s favorite foods and games plus supplying the facility with some favorite toys and blankets;can help the pet to acclimatize to the new situation.

But keeping the animal safe is not the only thing that they do in these facilities. Some offer day spas where the pet can romp around and get dirty before being treated to a bath and brushing out which somehow mirrors humans.

On top of this, the pet is trained with the reward technique to change the behavior if it is not good. When the owner comes back, they get some training too so that they will know how to keep up the good work. This is great for those who struggle with trying to control a pet and will calm the pet down for sure.

For anywhere that will be keeping pets overnight or on protracted stays, it is most important that each pet has its own kennel for a little privacy for itself. Some places will put the animals in communal runs but this is not the best way to take care of them. Having them run free in the surrounding countryside and then getting cleaned up on their return is like a holiday for them, but then retiring to their own kennel will be beneficial too since they will not have to protect themselves. This is probably one of the key points that should be discussed before choosing the ideal place.

For those who have heard horror stories about kennels, some may find the idea of putting their beloved Fido in a home for pets too much to deal with. But it really does the animal good to be around other pets and pooches to get some company. They learn to socialize and get along with other animals and humans and this only makes their lives better. Shy and timid animals usually benefit from this service and the owner may well see how they change through this experience.

Guides To Source the Right Center To Look After the Valued Pet

Every holiday, thousands of kids ask their parents for a pet. Many parents keenly go out and fulfill their kid’s desires, although they don’t constantly take into account the results. Animals are life forms, and there are many things that need to be taken into account before you may safely add one to your family. For instance, a big concern with pets generally arises when a family moved. While there are cross country movers and long distance movers around to deal with the non-living things, do you know who will deal with the relocation of the pet? This is but one of the several things that you have to consider before you include a pet to your household.

Another one of the greatest apprehensions is who will actually look after the animal when it is lodged in your place. While kids have great objectives, there are extremely inadequate numbers of them that will actually look after all of an animal’s needs. As such, you will often notice that you, as the parent, will have to pick up the slack that the childrens leave behind when they forget to feed or walk the pet. If you are okay with this agreement, then you have emptied the first difficulty, although there is still more to take into account.

Pets enter difficulties throughout their lives, and you need to be ready to manage anything that goes with the concern that they get into. This generally includes a few vet bills that may easily crash into hundreds of dollars. Despite what sort of animal you have, you need to be able to fund their medical care without suffering or holding up bills that you have in other parts of your life. For many people, this implies keeping a special savings account on the side to protect pet related expenditures.

Do you know what sort of animal will go well with your standard of living? There are plenty of choices out there, although the most usual pets are dogs and cats. While not every place is right for a dog, cats are a great choice to anyone who seeks a companion that does not need a whole bunch of room or time. Petite animals are excellent for busy homes that do not constantly have the time to pay attention to an animal, or in places where pets are usually not embraced. Caged animals are excellent for smaller children as well, because they are certainly observed.

Despite what sort of pet you eventually settle on, remember to delicately consider the different characteristics of pet ownership before you acquire the animal. While owning an animal may be something that is really worthwhile, it is also something that takes much task as well. Anyhow, guarantee that the animal will be glad so that you do not have to merely find it a different place in a moment after you get it.

Whenever anyone has to go away from the home, for business or just a holiday, finding somewhere to put the pets for the duration of the absence can be quite a headache. However, withdog boarding Everett and all the areas in the vicinity are well taken care of. For those who want to check this out online, just enter dog boarding Seattle into any search engine and choose from that list.

For the canine variety of pet, sometimes getting the right minders can be a problem and owners always worry that their pet will not be loved and cared for while they are away. However, at these facilities there are more than enough comfort and exercise routines to keep even the most fussiest of pampered pets happy for the time that the owner is away.

These facilities offer things like walks in the woods; a lot of fussing and attention plus treats every day so that they do not miss the owner too much. Indeed, by the time that they get fully used to this new routine, the holiday is over and they can go back to their every day life.

Even day care is available for these canine pets and the owner can relax at work knowing that their pet is having a great time there. Some facilities even offer day spas for them where they get bathed, brushed and de-matted, shampooed etc if the owner so wishes.

While all this is going on, the pets automatically learn of the earning rewards for good behavior skills which will be beneficial for the owner as well. Not only does the pet get the full and luxurious treatment, they come home better behaved than they were before.

Now the great thing about getting the pet trained in this way is that the owner will just be shown the ropes when they come to collect the pet. These centers believe in training both the owner and the pet so that this positive behavior will continue at home.

For anyone contemplating putting their pets in this type of environment for any length of time, it may be a good idea to take along some favorite toys and blankets so that they do not feel the loss of separation. Just smelling something very familiar will allow them to fit in and settle down faster and with less stress.

At night these animals will have their own kennel to relax in so the owner need not worry that they are all squeezed into one small place. Even their preferred diet is offered so there should be no problems with upset stomachs or the animal going off its food while it is away from home.

These types of shelters are not all of equal quality naturally. Some unscrupulous traders will not look after pets as well as they should so taking some time to ask around the neighborhood or friends and family will set any doubts to rest. After all, word of mouth is probably the best advertising tool that anyone could hope for, and if the place is not up to scratch, they will talk freely about the place.

Reasons To Detect the Top Place To Board Your Pet

If the dog exhibits signs of coughing and sneezing, accompanied by a runny nose and eyes, this will probably be an uncomplicated cold so you need to try not to stress too much. However, if the coughing and sneezing becomes persistent then your pet could be suffering from Parainfluenza. If you believe this, it is critical for dog health care for you to keep the dog separate from any other dogs because the illness is exceptionally contagious. Get him into the vet’s.

One affliction termed Canine Kennel Cough is characterised by a raspy cough with phlegm. This is often much more serious, so if your dog’s symptoms remain a problem for more than a few days with no improvement, consult the vet’s. Another dangerous variation on respiratory infections in dogs is distemper. This is when cold symptoms are coupled with gastro-intestinal symptoms. Dogs should be vaccinated against distemper, as it has a substantial fatality rate. Get your pet to the vet’s if you believe he has Distemper.

Usually, less extreme colds just like a typical common cold in humans will run its course in just a few days. If your dog has experienced cold symptoms for more than ten days with no indication of recovery then you ought to take him to the vet’s where he will be able to receive dog health care. The reason for this is because un-mended colds and viruses which the dog’s own disease fighting capability has been unable to protect against can develop into pneumonia that is much more serious. This is characterised by coughing and difficulty breathing.

Regarding seeking treatment for your dog, typically just young dogs and more senior dogs require professional aid for simple common colds. Adult dogs which are mostly in good health may be looked after at home in comparable ways to how we’d take care of ourselves if we got a cold. Do not attempt to give your pet over the counter cold remedies as there is a danger of overdose. Make certain the dog is kept cozy and dry and limit their time outside for the reason that cold may make breathing harder when their bronchial tubes already are a little bit stuffed up. As with people, dogs will have to keep well hydrated, so give them a bit of lukewarm chicken soup. You can also try out dog health care in the home making your pet more cozy by letting him inhale warm steamy air inside your bathroom following a hot shower for five minutes. This will help to alleviate his congestion.

Don’t forget, if you’re caring for your adult dog in your own home and his symptoms become worse, he ceases eating or his coughing stops him from sleeping then it’s high time to take him to the vet’s.

A Guide to Dog Health Care: Colds

I am a huge movie buff, with one of my all-time favorite teen flicks being “Clueless” starring Alicia Silverstone, Paul Rudd who later went on to “Friends” and other movies, and Brittany Murphy. Last December, I was definitely stunned by the news about Brittany Murphy’s sudden death. Animal Chiropractic

My heart went out to her mother and her husband, Simon Monjack, as they laid her to rest, following her funeral, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles, California. The 32-year old actress had a heart attack, which caused her death at their shared home with her husband in LA on December 20, 2009, as stated by the news reports.

As I clicked through her husband’s web site I saw breathtaking photos that Simon had taken of Brittany. Such a shame for someone so beautiful and talented to be taken from us too soon.

Aside from the tragic loss of her family and fans, what truly broke my heart was when I learned of Brittany’s female Maltese named Clara. I am such an animal lover that I cried when I read online at People magazine’s web site that Brittany’s husband said that the dog was experiencing a change in behavior since Brittany’s death.

Her husband gave Clara to his wife as a Christmas gift the previous year. Brittany named her after silent film star Clara Bow and was reported as describing Clara as “a humongous personality in a tiny package. She is treated not as a pet but as a family member.

I had never really given it much thought, but this tragic turn of events made me wonder how pets react to their owner’s death. Do pets mourn? If so, how can survivors help the pet’s physical and emotional health during the mourning process?

My pet’s veterinarian, Dr.Ava Frick, is a specialist in pet behavior. Due to problems of excessive barking and showing aggression toward my other two dogs, she has been using Alpha-Stim technology treatments on one of my dogs.

Dr. Frick and I discussed Clara and pets’ ability to mourn during our next appointment. According to her, going through a mourning period after the loss of a human or animal companion is common for a dog. The symptoms are actually exhibited for days or even weeks plus decreased appetite, lethargy, and changes in the dog’s behavior.

Keeping a dog on its normal routine is important in such cases, she said. Exercise can do wonders to relieve stress for pets as with humans who are going through issues. Also, acquaintance with familiar people and meeting new friendly faces can boost the pet’s mood.

If the pet’s mourning period seems to carry on, it is a good idea to seek the advice of professionals. Your veterinarian can identify Physiologic abnormalities, which might be contributing to the dog’s depression.

Alternative therapies like acupuncture, herbal supplements, and dietary modification fit for those dogs who are mourning and experiencing depression. Pet Pain Relief

After all of the buzz in the news over the last few months about the Swine Flu (also known as H1N1 influenza), I grew concerned over whether my two West Highland White Terriers, Bogie and Bacall, might be in danger. The cat had developed signs of a respiratory infection after several people in its family were ill.

After tests resulting as positive for H1N1, the cat was reported as the first cat infected with the swine Flu. Horse Pain Relief

Dr. Frick informed me that both American Veterinary Medical Association and the American Association of Feline practitioners put out reminders regarding many viruses having the ability to pass between people and animals. Of course, she said, it is always smart to keep an eye on your pet’s health and get in touch with your veterinarian if anything seems to be of concern. Instead of risking your pet being uncomfortable or even suffering, it is always best to nip something in the bud.

While canine influenza is much more common in dogs than H1N1, it is also a much more serious health threat. It has the unfortunate ability to spread quickly through anywhere there is a population of dogs such as rescue organizations, kennels, or greyhound facilities and can pass directly from one dog to another.

One complication of canine influenza is pneumonia, which is sometimes fatal. Actually, it has been reported that its mortality is approximately 10%.

So far, the authorities are telling us that H1N1 can infect cats and maybe dogs, but it does not seem to be capable of passing among animals. I am glad that I have had Bogie and Bacall under Dr. Frick’s care for several years and that we do everything possible to boost their immune systems through stress relief with Alpha-Stim treatment, and by providing them with multi-vitamins and a healthy diet.

It will be important to remember that puppies are at a stage when they can easily develop bad habits, so making a commitment and being patient will help you to when you are working with your dog.

Yelling and rubbing a puppy’s nose in their mess does not work when you want to housebreak your puppy. Following these simple steps are going to give you much more success when you are training your puppy.

It will be much easier to train your puppy to go outside if you start training them to do so. While newspaper training is used by a lot of people, it is often hard to get the dog to go outside once they have got a spot in the home where they always go. Plan on training your dog to go outside from the very beginning.

Puppies work very well with a schedule. Plan on taking your puppy out when you get up in the morning, right after they eat or drink, and right before bedtime. Developing this habit will help your puppy to go potty outside when they are supposed to. You also do not want to feed your puppy food or snacks two hours before bedtime. If they eat before bedtime, they will probably have an accident during the night.

When your puppy begins to turn in circles or sniff around, it wants to go outside. Put the puppy out side while saying. “It’s time to go potty”. Whenever you put your puppy out to go potty you should have a phrase that you use to reinforce the action. This will help when the dog is older and you are visiting a strange house. When you say “It’s time to go potty”, your dog will be ready to go potty.

Use this technique as a training tool. Using a bell or timer set it for 45 minutes or an hour and when the bell rings, put the puppy outside to go potty.

A great way to put a twist on this tip is to use a little silver bell instead of a timer. When you dog gets use to going outside when it hears the bell, hang the bell near the door. When the dog needs to go outside, it will ring the bell to alert you. This is a great timesaving way to housebreak your dog and make sure that it gets out whenever it needs to. Quick Tips For Housebreaking A Puppy

I was concerned about my five-year-old Maltese, Heidi, because her skin seemed dry and flaky, and her coat did not seem as full and silky as usual. I was not alarmed at first as I thought it was just merely caused by the dryness in the house during the winter months. But it never cleared up. It even got worse. Animal Pain Relief

When doing our usual snuggling routine together while watching the evening news each night, she seemed to jump off my lap every now and then to scratch, settle down, then respond to another itch again. It is really hard to get a full-night’s sleep if your baby is suffering from pain!

At Heidi’s appointment, I mentioned her irritation to our veterinarian, Dr. Ava Frick and she asked me if I might possibly be bathing Heidi too often or using the wrong shampoo. Both are common reasons for a dog to experience skin irritation, however I use a very mild shampoo and do not bathe Heidi too often.

Since I am sensitive on preventing fleas from ever becoming a problem, it is ruled out. She only goes outside to play for a bit each day and to relieve herself, and I am careful to have the yard treated in order to prevent fleas.

Ruling out those possibilities, Dr. Frick and I then discussed on how essential fatty acids are important to a dog’s healthy coat. Although I thought I was making the best choices when purchasing her food and treats, I was quite worried about the possibility of Heidi having deficiency in her diet.

I discovered about healthy fats that are essential in maintaining a dog’s coat in good shape Low-quality commercial dog food do not provide the proper nutrients to support healthy skin and coat. Improperly balanced homemade dog foods often lack proper nutrition, as well.

Omega-3 is also beneficial for a dog’s skin because of its anti-inflammatory effects. They are helpful for dogs with allergies or other inflammatory skin diseases. They are helpful as they reduce itchiness since most dogs’ skin irritate due to excessive scratching.

Dr Frick suggested some changes to Heidi’s diet, including the addition of supplements. She told me to expect for some improvements on Heidi’s skin and coat within six weeks of starting Omega-3 implementation and she was right.

Now, my dog’s skin and coat are more splendid than ever. And, best of all, Heidi doesn’t have to deal with the irritation that led her to scratch so often that it seemed like it was driving her crazy. Pet Chiropractic
